Calcium-dependent proteolysis of actin during storage of platelet concentrates.
In an ongoing study of the changes that occur in platelet concentrates during storage, we investigated two 28-26-Kd proteins designated SP-1 and SP-2, respectively, which increase markedly during blood-bank storage of platelet concentrates at room temperature. Formation of SP-1 and SP-2 was inhibited by storage at 4 degrees C as well as by treatment of the concentrates with leupeptin, N-ethylma...
متن کاملThe effect of cold on platelets. II. Platelet function after short-term storage at cold temperatures.
Citrated platelet-rich plasma (PAP) was kept at cold temperatures or room temperature. After 4 hr or more at these temperatures, the PRPs were warmed 1 hr at 37#{176}C. This prevents the spontaneous aggregation seen in chilled PRP that is stirred immediately after warming. Platelet aggregation in response to connective tissue (CT), epinephrine, and adenosine diphosphate (ADP) was considerably g...
متن کاملEffect of calcium chloride treatment on post harvest quality of peach fruit during cold storage
This study was carried out on the effectiveness of calcium chloride (CaCl2) treatments on the post harvest quality of peach fruits during cold storage at 10oC and 75 ± 5% RH. Different solutions of CaCl2 such as 1% (T1), 2% (T2) and 3% (T3) were prepared and the fruits were dipped for five minutes, while (To) was left with out calcium chloride treatment as control. The fruits were packed in cor...
متن کاملProteolysis of myosin during platelet storage.
Physical properties of actomyosin from either fresh or stored platelets have been compared. Actomyosin obtained from platelets after 3 days of storage contained myosin that was 60-80% degraded to myosin rod. No myosin rod was detected in fresh platelets. The platelet myosin rod is similar to the rod produced by limited proteolysis of skeletal muscle myosin.
متن کاملCalcium storage and function in apicomplexan parasites.
Calcium is relevant for several vital functions in apicomplexan parasites, including host cell invasion, parasite motility and differentiation. The ER (endoplasmic reticulum) and calcium-rich acidocalcisomes have been identified as major calcium stores. Other potential calcium-storage organelles include the Golgi, the mitochondrion, the apicoplast and the recently described plant-like vacuole i...
